Two Sisters ‘battle’ for Women’s Rights

     US tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams played a friendly match in Lagos, Nigeria to promote gender equality and womens rights. before heading to South Africa.  ended the first leg of their two-nation African tour with a high-profile friendly match on Friday in the Nigerian commercial capital, Lagos. Serena, who has visited the continent many times, and Venus, visiting for the first  time, journey to South Africa on Friday.

     Nigerian tennis sponsor Molade Okoya-Thomas and Nigeria’s former vice president Alex Ekwueme were among the 2,000 fans in attendance at Lagos Lawn Tennis Club. Venus, 32, beat her 31-year-old sibling Serena in two straight sets of 6-4 and 7-5 in an exhibition match organisers described as the “battle of two sisters”. The visit is intended to inspire and encourage girls in the country of 160 million, where gender disparity is an acute problem.
