It appears that since the care of the garden was taken over by the Municipal Council of Kakamega, this historuic site has completely deteriorated. When maintained by the  Friends of Muliro, the gardens were at once was gathering place for families and students The site is used as a parking lot for service vehicles. flea maket, and dump site. Worst of all it has gained notoriety as a place of illicit sex acts as documented on Youtube.
